I hear a lot of talk about shutter angle and I don't understand all of it. Could someone simplify the subject for me? basically: what's the difference between, let's say, 150 and 220 shutter angles? I really don't know?

    thank you

A motion picture camera shutter is a circular disc with some angular portion removed from it that spins in front of the gate. This allows light to reach the film during a fixed exposure time, and then shields the film from exposure while the next frame is being brought up, otherwise this movement of the film would cause a blurred image.

The angle of the shutter is the amount that's missing from a full circle. The higher the angle, the more light allowed per each rotation of the shutter, the greater exposure (however, the more blurring of the image if the subject is moving fast.)

A 220 degree shutter is very typical of an XL (existing light) camera. These were produced starting in the 1970s and were capable of filming indoors without added light when used with higher speed films.

thanks guys. And thanks for the list of shutterspeeds S8 Booster. I had no idea that the angle of shutter has so significant meaning to shutter speed. There's about 1/20second difference between 150 and 220. That's quite a lot ...if it goes the same way than in still photographing, I guess it does?
